Péter Barna
SlowFood-CE project - Kecskemét field research
It was his father, Tamás Rosznáky Barna who started to collect indigenous and old varieties of fruit-trees. On one of his journeys he came across an abandoned orchard of mostly healthy fruit-trees. It aroused his interest and he started studying fruit-trees all over the country. What he found was one variety more interesting than the other; he collected the propagation materials for propagation in his own orchard. The main characteristics of these fruits are not aesthetic appearance, but flavor and aroma. At present there are several varieties even within one variety - as we go back in time their number decreases. There is a wide diversity of saplings in the tree nursery of the family. Liquid recharge is provided by drip-irrigation. They strive to use as small amount of pesticides as possible. Their aim is to make the most of the natural resources and to strengthen the immunity of plants.

Slow Food Central Europe
Slow Food-CE is a transnational cooperation project that seeks to improve the capacities of local, public and private actors in order to safeguard and give value to their gastronomic cultural heritage as part of a vision that integrates economic, environmental and social sustainability. The project intends to create a transferable model that can give traditional foods their true value, through knowledge of their producers, plant varieties, animal breeds, traditional processing techniques, folklore, cultural landscape, and enhance the common food heritage of Central Europe, leading to a new alliance between five cities: Venice, Dubrovnik, Brno, Kecskemét and Krakow.
