Cortereggio Canavese Piattella Bean

 Domenico Defilippi was born in 1938. He was interviewed in 2013.
He explains the cultivation of Piattella bean in Cortereggio. It is an ancient variety of white bean taht is typical of the small rural village in which he was born and lives.
The Piattella bean is grown by intercropping it with maize. It  constituted a valuable  source of income in the agricultural economy of Cortereggio. 
Domenico also dwells on his work experience as a farmer and a lumberjack who left the village to find a new job in Turin. Although he left the village, he maintained a small cultivation of Piattella bean for his family. In 2010, when other local farmers decided to resume cultivation, he was able to provide them with seeds.
In the interview, Domenico describes some of the traditional feastive customs of the village, in particular St. Lucina's day.
