Carlo Carli

One hundred years of history

Carlo Carli, born in Oneglia (Imperia) on May 20 1918, was interviewed on March 3 2011. After taking an active part in the liberation struggle, from 1945 he devoted himself to the reconstruction of the family company. After years of bombing, it only became productive again years after the end of the war. Carlo Carli speaks of his father Giovanni who, in 1911,  began work as a printer. He explains how the company has grown in the course of time, adopting a business system that leapfrogs middlemen and takes oil directly to the customer. First on bicycles, then on motorbikes, the Carlis began by travelling the countryside in the area of Asti, Cuneo and Alba, delivering oil to households. In 1956 Carlo took over the helm of the company. Here he explains the importance of being able to recognize and select oil. In 1983, Carlo Carli was named Cavaliere del Lavoro for his merits as a captain of industry. In 1992 he opened the Museum of the Olive Tree which houses an extraordinary collection of documents fundamental for understanding of olive growing and culture.
