Interviewed in 2012, Giovanni Garelli was born in Mondivi in 1924.After living for a short period in Brazil, where his father became a manager in a mining factory, his family came back home In the interview, Giovanni Garelli relates his employment in the railway, his duties and his life as a railroader during the war, memories of his service in the army in July 1943, his decision to remain a railroader for the partisan movements, and one of the Giacosa's messengers. For his work he gathered valuable information on the nazi-fascist movements that allowed the partisans to get an accurate picture of the situation and plan their actions. After the war, after long years spent in hospitals to treat pleurisy contracted during the war, went back to work in the railroad service after a fierce legal battle against discrimination that he won. After that, he resigned to pursue other economic activities.
