
Hitoma Saviama, "Luz del Sol"

Hitoma Saviama is interviewed in Turin as part of the colombian delegation in Terra Madre 2010.
He explains the meaning of is name which translates into spanish as "Luz del Sol" or "Sun's Light". This name is given to him as a "cacique"or king, charge that is inherited from father to sun from his ancestors and that symbolizes his role but also his responsibility to lead and defend his people and the diverse communities of amazonian indians that he is representing. He leads a city 8 km away from the Amazon city of Leticia that is named after him as Ciudad Hitoma.
He tells how the so-called civilized man is destroying the forest and his own culture while he wants to bring the message from the indian point of view of nature and the earth as the mother place that take in all living beings, and that has to be preserved and respected. His own temple or Maloca has been vandalized and destroyed to ashes and makes a call to get help to rebuild it.
