Margherita Mo
Maggy
Margherita Mo, a staffetta, or partisan messenger, operated under the nom de guerre of "Maggy". Born in Lequio Berria (Cuneo) in a farming family in 1923, she worked as a seamstress. Here she recalls her experience as a partisan, which began on September 8 1943. She remembers 1944 in particular which she describes as the hardest year in the war. She crosses the Langhe hills, from Santo Stefano to Alba, from Cortemilia to Savona to Belvedere, to take messages to commanding officer "Poli".
She mentions some of the episodes she experienced with commanding officer Balbo and a number of British generals in Piedmont. She recalls the Fascist general Languasco during the war and after, when she went to live in Civitavecchia. She also recalls her fear of spies: she never let herself be photographed with partisans.
