Pello Urdapilleta

A pig breeder

Pello Urdapilleda, interviewed in 2010, is the sixth and last child of a family of pig farmers. His farm contributed to preserve two of the three typical Basque pig races. However, he is the only member of his family that still continues this activity. His brothers have moved to cities to work in the industry that Pello Urdapilleda considers the true enemy of food traditions.

To Mr. Urdapilleda, happiness is eating a slice of ham, a sip of wine, but especially to see one's own pigs eat free under the oaks: the happiness of the animal, according with Mr. Urdapilleda, will pour into the pork meat.
