Chiaffredo Depetris

My mill

Chiaffredo Depetris, born in 1935, tells his experience as a miller to the Granaries of Memory.
Chiaffredo Depretri recounts the work as a miller, a family profession, remembering old techniques of bread and flour production.
Showing the mill, he explains the mechanism of the mill, the work of the millstones and water.
He tells about the electrification of the production plant and the times during WW2, his meeting with the partisans, the experience of food rationing, and hunger in the valley.
Thinking of his native community, he tells about the popular devotion to St. Blaise and St. Rocco, and describes carnival, thr vigils in the stable, and wedding rites.
Looking to the present, he indicates the problem of pollution in the valley, and his commitment to "teaching" to school students, having opened the mill to school trips.
