Peppino Sigalini

Between Po and Ticino rivers

Peppino Secalini, born in 1932, has been a clerk and a farmers. For the Granaries of Memory he narrates his memories of the Po and the Ticino rivers.

He recalls episodes of the lives of of those transporters that barged logs and gravel along the rivers and  the washerwomen of Ticino river.

Pavia covered bridge evokes memories of episodes happened during the 1930s-1940s, such as the inauguration of Pavia water airport and moments of the partisan war.

Comparing present to past, he notes a profound break in the bond that united the people of Pavia to its rivers, the Ticino and the Po: a rupture that makes  the rivers today appear  dead, abandoned.
