Krandangnga Jrethai
Lam Yai community of Samuthsongkarm province
Krandangnga Jrethai is the leader of Lam Yai community, a peasant community which produces coco sugar. He was interviewed by the students of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in 2013.
In the interview, Krandangnga Jrethai explains the history of his community placed in the delta region of Mae Klong river. In the course of the past decade it went out of its isolationa thanks to the improvement of the transport system
He explains the economic situation of his community and the scarce prestige that coconut farming has nowadays, although it is the traditional industry of the community and thanks to it he was able to sustain his four children.
He explains that conducts his life according with the King's dictates, without excess. Thanks to it, he is able to live a decent life. He hopes that his children will continue the traditional industry of the community but is afraid it will not last long.
