Alberto Panciroli
The Barber-bookseller
Alberto Panciroli, 76 years old when he was interviewed in 2007, tells about his experience as a barber, bookseller and civil servant.
Mr. Panciroli narrates his experience as a “sui generis bookseller”: from a barber and keen reader to a barber who started using his shop to sell books. The book trade was lived by Mr. Panciroli as a cultural mission: to bring books to all the farms and neighbourhoods of Colorno.
Mr. Panciroli points out the socialist history of his community, in the early decades of the Twentieth century. He mentions some actions of partisans during WWII as well as episodes of his political life.
The Po river is described as an affective cosmos that unites the people who dwell along the river: a presence "loved and hated" by its people.
