Gianni Pistrini

Coffee taster in Trieste

Gianni Pistrini, born in Trieste in 1959, is a taster, journalist and coffee expert. His passion began at a young age, when, still a university student, he was hired by a coffee producer as a taster, by virtue of his marked olfactory, gustatory and sensorial sensibility. He says he had, since he was a child, a remarkable ability to recognize smells and flavors, which allowed him to grasp the contamination between foods that had been cut with the same knife.

His professional life revolves around the world of coffee: taster, coffee technician, writer, journalist, he has also worked in the field of logistics and import export. Thanks to this experience he was able to know the fascinating reality of the port of Trieste, which, since 1719, thanks to the intervention of Charles VI, enjoys the status of free port, through which is imported almost a quarter of the coffee that circulates in our country.

A man of great culture and a profound connoisseur of his Trieste, he will accompany us on a sensory and cultural journey through historical cafés, literary cafés, roasters and other symbolic places that for centuries have linked the destiny of the city to that of the black drink. For this reason we can rightfully define Trieste as the capital of coffee.
